Today's topic, presented by Dennis Whitaker and Sandy Gaines, was the military memorial planned for Memorial Park.  It is slated to list every Cupertino resident who has given up his/her life while serving in any branch of the service.  During the presentation we were reminded that the club paid for the flagpole that is currently flying the US flag in the park.

This 'n That

Just a reminder that the Sr. Luncheon is coming up quickly (Sept. 9th) and that everyone is expected to participant in some fashion.

Dave has asked that since he doesn't have time this year to actively gather prizes for the golf tournament (I suppose this is a good time to mention that I'm in the same situation) that each member try and solicit and/or donate at least one prize themselves.

Art has requested that everyone be thinking about who deserves the honor of Kiwanian of the Year for 2005/2006 as the vote will take place shortly.

Joker-Joker

Art drew an Ace and walked away with a hefty $25 prize.

Have You Heard The One About......????

Millions of years ago, there was no such thing as the
wheel.

One day, some primitive guys were watching their
wives drag a dead mastodon to the food & fire area. It was exhausting work; the guys were getting tired just watching.

Then they noticed some large, smooth, rounded boulders and
they had a great idea! They could sit on top of the
boulders and get a better view of their wives working.

This was the first in a series of breakthroughs that
ultimately led to television...and later to the remote
control.

Happy/Sad Dollars

Dave G. paid both a  happy and sad dollar.  The happy because he played at Spyglass, which he loves to do.  And the sad because his team (is that the right word?) lost the tournament by one lousy stroke.

Kristin was happy to drop in a dollar to say both her girls made the varsity volleyball team.

Art was happy enough that all the family is gone from his house that he put in a happy dollar for it again this week.

Doug was happy about the A's.

Fenton was contacted by someone he was in army school with back in WWII and hadn't hard from since, which made him pleased to pay a buck.

Clark added his happy and sad dollars to the pot.  Sad that he realized his business must have fallen off because potential clients took one look at him, decided he was at deaths door and decided not to list with him.  Happy because business has picked up some and that he was recently able to sell it.  He has agreed to stay on for one year to help the new owner get settled.

Out 'n About

Doug made his trek to Cape Cod but had the fine-free badge which made it impossible to attach a fine to the trip.
