Speaker

Our speaker today was Michael Chojnacki on the topic of "The Power of a Smile."  He shared several stories with us on that subject.  This is one of them.

A flight from SFO to Hawaii was delayed on the tarmac for 3 hours.  Finally, at 3am, they pulled it back into the gate and offloaded all the passengers.  At that hour the ticket counter was staffed by only one person, so the task of getting everyone re-booked on another flight was long and arduous.  One by one the passengers approached the ticket agent and one by one they let him have an earful (they were quite upset.)  One lady held back, waiting for the unruly crowd to get through.  A couple of hours later, the line diminished and she took her spot in front of the agent.  She smiled at him and said, "I know none of this is your fault, don't pay any attention to all these rude people."  When the plane had boarded again this is what happened.  Every single passenger, save one, was seated in coach.  That lone passenger, a very nice lady with a warm smile and a kind word, sat by herself in first class.  She had 2 attendants to cater to her every need and she arrived in Hawaii rested and happy.

There's a moral in this story we should all recognize.  What's the old saying; you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Guests

Clark brought a guest, and I'm told, a potential new member, Hal.

Memorial Service

We were saddened to learn that Wayne Johnson's mom, Ethel, passed away.  Ethel and Charlie Johnson were very active in the club for many years until Charlie's death.  A celebration of Ethel's life will be held at Montgomery Center in the Villages this Friday at 10:30am.  Our deepest condolences to Wayne and his family.

Getting Back In The Swing Of Things

Prez Dave, having been gone for a couple of weeks, felt as though he needed to make sure he hadn't lost his "presidential edge."  So, for practice, and to assure himself and the rest of the group that he still has it, decided, for no reason in particular to fine Dave M. $2.

Happy/Sad Dollars

Doug paid a happy dollar for the A's win.

Paula paid a sad dollar because lunch doesn't include dessert.  Now you know why I've never joined the club.

Out 'n About

Dave M. went camping at Woods Lake, near Lake Tahoe; the campsite elevation was 8300 feet.  Needless to say, he and his party had to vacate the campgrounds after the first night because there's no air up there!  He rolled the dice and paid a fine of $7.

Kristin and Dave G. went to Chicago where Kristin reports she had the pleasure of sitting in the scorching hot sun to watch a Cubs game.  While on this trek across the U.S., she states she was also forced to attend a family reunion.  Stop, reverse that....(only Willie Wonka fans will get that, sorry.)  Following that, they went to Tahoe to watch the kids play softball.  A roll of the dice cost Kristin $22 and Dave $12.
