Speaker
Bev Poellet from the International Justice Mission was our guest speaker this afternoon. The IJM helps people suffering injustice and oppression who cannot rely on local authorities for relief. The agency documents and monitors conditions of abuse and oppression, educates the church and public about the abuses, and mobilizes intervention on behalf of the victims.
They seek to establish factual records of reported human rights abuses based on the investigations of legally trained professionals and then attempts to intervene on behalf of the victims of injustice and oppression by providing or facilitating the provision of:
- Emergency relief (helping to bring an end to the abusive conduct or conditions)
- Perpetrator accountability (helping to bring the perpetrators to justice)
- Structural prevention (helping to prevent the abusive conduct or conditions)
- Victim care (helping to bring tangible compensation or aid to the victims)

Have You Heard The One About.......?
A Dodge truck driver would amuse himself by running over Ford drivers that were working on their trucks by the side of the road. Whenever he saw a Ford on the side of the road, he would swerve to hit whoever was standing around the opened hood. He would enjoy the satisfying "THUMP", and then swerve back onto the road.
One day, as the Dodge man was driving along he saw a priest hitchhiking. He thought he would do a good turn and pulled the truck over.
He asked the priest, "Where are you going, Father?"
"I'm going to the church 5 miles down the road," replied the priest.
"No problem, Father! I'll give you a lift. Climb in the truck." The happy priest climbed into the passenger seat and the Dodge man continued down the road.
Suddenly Old Dodge boy saw a broken down Ford with the hood up and a but-crack standing on the side of the road. The Dodge driver instinctively swerved to hit him. But then he remembered there was a priest in the truck with him, so at the last minute he swerved back into his lane, narrowly missing the ole boy. However, even though he was certain he missed him, he still heard a loud "THUD". Not understanding where the noise came from he glanced in his mirrors and when he didn't see anything, he turned to the priest and said, "I'm sorry Father, I almost hit that Ford truck driver."
"I know", replied the priest. "But don't worry, I got him with the door!"
