Speaker
May 2nd - Jerry Johnson from the DeAnza club talked about San Jose Airport's Chaplaincy Program called Interfaith Services, Inc., which has been in existance for 10 years and is one of 140 similar programs around the world. It was started by a Kiwanis member from Morgan Hill and continues today with the help of volunteers. They are currently recruiting for Board members and volunteers if anyone is interested. Funding for the program comes from churches, Kiwanis clubs and private individuals.
May 9th - Brian Szabo, Director of KMVT, a cable channel in Cupertino and Los Altos with viewership of around 100,000, was our program today. Brian, who spent 10 years in the movie industry working on feature films., then 13 years in software, including his own company, has been with the station for just about a year. Happy/Sad Dollars
Dale had 2 happy dollars because Maggie was well enough to travel to their timeshare in Pacific Grove.
Doug put in a happy and sad dollar. Happy because the Sharks won last night, but sad because he couldn't watch the game because it was on a channel you can see only if you have a dish.
Dave G. put in a buck because he played in a tournament at Paso de Tiempo and won the long drive. Then, in a charity golf tournament he did the same thing with a little help from the cart path.
Fenton was happy he was able to attend a 1956 class reunion where he saw many former students. He was also happy to have been invited so he didn't have to pay the $80 ticket price.
Kristin confessed to attending volleyball tournaments in Sacramento where her girls won some and lost some.
Steve plunked down a sad dollar because the work he's having done on his bathroom didn't get finished as expected.
Miscellanous Fines
Only one this week and it was paid by Clark who owed $1 for coming into the meeting late.
Interclub
Doug is putting together an interclub with Mtn View on May 17th. If you want to attend, see him to sign up.
Odds 'n Ends
Dave presented the club with a check for $500 from the Allstate Foundation.
Dave, who sat in for Art today, also presented the group with a trivia quiz. Questions were about either baseball or Mother's day. No surprise that those confronted with baseball questions did much better than those asked to provide the correct answer to queiries about Mother's Day.
Board Meeting Date Change
In June, July and August the BOD meetings will be held on the first Thursday of the month rather than the second.
Joker - Joker
Kristin won $3 in the May 1st drawing and Hal grabbed $6 today.
Have You Heard The One About.............?
A minister waited in line to have his car filled with gas just before a long holiday weekend. The attendant worked quickly, but there were many cars ahead of him. Finally, the attendant motioned him toward a vacant pump. "Reverend," said the young man, "sorry about the delay. It seems as if everyone waits until the last minute to get ready for a long trip."
The minister chuckled, "I know what you mean. It's the same in my business."
